Boys will be Boys!

I grew up with 2 sisters in my family. I babysat a lot, but it seemed to mostly be girls that I watched. Basically, I was surrounded by girls and girly type things!
So when we had our first boy I told my husband he would have to help me with this "boy stuff".
After our 2nd and 3rd boy...I knew I was way outnumbered and that life would never be the same for me!
All 3 of them are 110% boys...they love dirt, mud, wrestling, burping, lego's, cars, bikes, anything outside...

They are continually doing things that I have to ask, "Is that a boy thing?".
For example...

Do you know those orange and yellow cars that kids can ride in and make go with their feet (the Fred Flinstone kind of thing)? Okay, my thinking is get in it and ride around, right?
Not my boys! They (along with some others) put it at the far end of the field, put a pecan on top of it, then go as far back from it as they can and start peddling their bikes as fast as they can and RAM into it making it go flying forward while the pecan comes flying back at them and they try to duck it!

Now, does that sound like fun? Why? But these boys thought it was the funnest thing and did it for hours 2 days in a row!

It has been really cool here..50's...(we are in NC right now), and the last week has seen 3 water fights here with the other kids (all boys...about 8 - 10 in our complex)! WOW! Boy water fights are different than girl ones! Boys run after each other, they think it is fun to get someone down on the ground and just continually spray them with the cold hose water, then they are off and running to tackle and spray some more...thing is all are laughing! It was a fun thing to watch...but not something I could see myself being a part of!

Then there is the whole bathroom thing...lets just say I HATE going in there to clean it. Currently we are potty training my 3rd son, so I am in there often, and it doesn't matter how often I clean it, it still smells and is...a boy bathroom! YUCK!

BUGS! Somewhere my boys got these fake bugs...they look SO REAL! Especially the ROACHES! I HATE Roaches! My boys (including my husband!) have put them in strategic places to scare me! I know it is fake, but every time I find one (in the shower, near a shoe, by the trash can, on top of the stereo...) it scares me and I JUMP! They all find it soooo funny.I smile but think...Why?

Boys will be Boys! :) I wouldn't have it any other way! ;)

Pizza or McDonald's?

Last Thursday was Kolby's birthday, he turned 3. Since we are away from home right now living in North Carolina we couldn't have our friends and family over like we noramlly do (and we missed all of you!). We have made many new friends here though and thought we could still have a little party.
Kolby had different ideas. He let us know (numerous times) he wanted only his family at his party (then proceeded to name each of us) and that he wanted to order pizza and eat it here at home.
No matter how much the other two tried to talk him into a party ("a big party") he wasn't interested! So, Pizza at home it was...
...until 5 minutes before Jon got off work and we were suppose to order it, then he changed his mind and decided he wanted MCDONALD'S! It was hard to get our taste buds off of the pizza we had been planning all week and eat a hamburger...but he was the birthday boy!
I don't know if he really wanted McDonald's (it isn't like we don't ever eat there!) or it it was fun for him to change his mind and watch us. He does that, he says or does things and then sits there with a little smirk on his face just waiting to see what we will do!
One time at dinner, one of the other boys got down to go to the bathroom. We watched him reach over take food off their plate, put it on his and keep eating like nothing happened. But then, he looked up at us, gave us the littlest smirky smile and went back to eating!
I think we have a funny guy on our hands!
Now, if we could just get potty training down...
(that is a whole other story...)

Sarah...How old is she?

Sarah is 20 months old...Is that old enough to care about what she is wearing? Is she old enough to know what she does and doesn't want and express it loudly?

I have 3 boys...So this is not my first time to experience the coming of the "2's", however, this is my baby girl, my little sweetheart! I am amazed at the difference there are between boys and girls at such a young age!
My boys don't really care about what they wear...ever!
Sarah? OH YES SHE CARES!

Yesterday morning before church I was going to get her dressed, she took the dress and threw it on the floor. Then she folded her arms and looked at me. It was the look that says "...just try to make me mom"! We tried some different outfits and she willingly expressed her opionion about all of them! Anyway, it was defintely a challenge to get her dressed and I finally gave the job to Jon so he could hold her down as he did it.
Yesterday I was thinking, oh isn't that cute? She cares what she wears!
Okay, today I am not thinking that so much!

Don't you want your kids to always be good for other people, you want to hear how cute they are and how well they listen, all that good stuff that makes you feel good as a parent, right?
Today, I heard something from Sarah's teacher at childcare that I wasn't prepared to hear! When it came time to go outside she didn't want to. She didn't want to put her coat on either. She folded her arms and gave them that look....that "I am going to do it my way and when I want to..." look.
Finally they got her outside and then they had a hard time getting her back inside! At least she is still little enough that you can pick her up and carry her in...

So, my little princess, the one that is so adorable and sweet...she is turning into a real person. I knew this day would come, I was just hoping to hold it off for a little bit longer.

Four Kids, No Brain Cells

Where did I ever come up with a name like that? I once heard that for every child you have you lose around 25% of your brain cells. Because I have 4 children that would mean I have basically no brain cells left! For some reason there are people in my familiy who would say this is an accurate statement of me. For example, the other day my sister-in-law was preparing to take food to someone who was having a funeral. What is the first question that pops into my mind? "Did somebody die?" (DUH!) Of course, I didn't actually ask that question, my mistake was in telling that I even thought it! :) Thus...Four Kids, No Brain Cells! :)
